Wildlife Wonderland with House and Cabina
3 Bed|3.5 Bath|268m²
Dominical, Puntarenas
LOCATION: Dominical, Puntarenas
We live just down the road from this house and I have never listed a home that attracts as much wildlife as our neighbors’ does. Agoutis by the dozen, coati mundis, deer, wild pigs, monkeys, sloths, curassows, toucans, ocelot…. Why? Because it is a peaceful, thoughtfully landscaped, park like property and the whole concept was to be as welcoming and appealing to the natural world as possible. How did they do that?
There are dozens of pineapple plants (for the animals), a grove of banana trees, a small cluster of irresistible African oil palms, mango trees, and all kinds of other plants that birds and animals love. Beyond the animal friendly plantings, there are citrus trees, elang elang trees (think sweet perfume in early mornings), and too many more to list.
So the homes were created to be perfect observation decks. The main house has about as much glass as you can build into a home and still have it be structurally sound. From every room on both floors the views are rich and full of the natural world. When the wildlife is around, you see it from inside or out.
The casita would be enough of a house for many a couple looking for simplicity and charm. It’s warm wood interior glows in the morning light and its screened in porch is nothing less than one of the most charming settings in this area to enjoy a good book and a cup of your favorite drink while surrounded by beauty, day or night.
We often say it, but there is no place where this is more true: you could live happily and comfortably in the casita, rent out the main house periodically, and live here pretty much for free. The two homes are separated by elevation and plants that give each privacy from the other. It’s a perfect setup for a B&B!
The vast view of the valley and mountains to the east behind the house is currently limited by design. The owners decided they liked the monkeys and birds in the trees more than an open view that direction, so they let the trees fill out. You could make a different choice and open up the view by trimming branches – it’s up to you. Whichever, there is a tiny peek of the ocean on the other side, which isn’t so much about view as it is about catching the cooling breezes that come off the ocean in the daytime.
Yes, there is a remote controlled security gate at the entrance. Yes, the high quality furniture and stainless steel appliances are all new and come with the house. Yes, the house and casita are in beautiful condition and move in ready. Yes, you will love the layout, the bedrooms, the light and space. But really, on this property, it’s not about the houses. It’s about what’s around them. To believe it, you must see it.
