Coldwell Banker Pacific Realty is working in partnership with Desarrollos Hojancha (Hojancha Developments) to offer cabins and homes of outstanding quality and beauty to its clients. Desarrollos Hojancha is a German-Costa Rican integrated forestry, milling, development and construction company located in Hojancha. The company’s business model is based on using locally grown woods – principally teak and gmelina – to build these homes on land that the company has bought, divided, and offers to its customers, who are principally Swiss, Germans and Austrians. In addition to lots and homes, the company offers opportunities to invest in this process.

The cabins are built principally of teak, with cabinets, closets and other non-structural elements made primarily of gmelina and teak. Native hardwoods such as guancaste, pochote and cenizaro are used as highlights or for countertops and other surfaces. Local stone may also be utilized in construction. The cabins are offered in a variety of layouts and sizes, beginning at 50 square meters, and include covered porches to provide outdoor living space and opportunities to enjoy Hojancha’s views. Custom designs can also be considered. The cost of these homes are $1,500 to $1650 turn key ready per square meter. The furniture can be manufactured in the company’s carpentry workshop for an additional charge (Previously completed pieces are available for viewing).

The lots offered by Desarrollos Hojancha are large, between 1,500 and 20,000 square meters, and located adjacent to or nearby each other in a quiet area just outside of town, forming a nice neighborhood of like-minded newcomers to Hojancha. Many of the lots have mountain and sunset views or are surrounded by woods and wildlife. The development also has a 10.5 -hectare nature reserve. The combination of very large lots with the reserve means that in time much of the vegetation originally present in the area could regenerate. As has happened in other parts of Costa Rica, this natural process, hopefully combined with wildlife-friendly landscaping efforts of lot owners, will transform what was once mostly barren cattle pasture into biodiversity and climate-friendly gardens and forest. In the tropics, this process occurs surprisingly quickly.
